Wealth Preservation Planning & Estate Administration
Dow Lohnes’s wealth preservation planning and estate administration practice is unique in that it draws upon the expertise of multiple attorneys in the tax practice, including corporate and partnership transactional specialists. By combining the talents of these attorneys with those of our traditional trust and estate attorneys, Dow Lohnes can provide comprehensive planning to its clients and has particular experience in advising a number of multi-generational families in structuring their estate plans and related business and investment holdings.
Our attorneys assist clients throughout the world in creating and implementing tax-sensitive estate plans. They provide advice to individuals concerning the methods available for the preservation of wealth, the transfer of assets to family members and others during lifetime and at death, and the realization of charitable objectives and continuity of control objectives for business interests and other assets. Our attorneys also assist individuals in the creation of wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable lifetime trusts, insurance trusts, charitable trusts, private foundations, partnerships, corporations and other entities which facilitate their estate plans.
Working alone or with attorneys in the litigation practice, our estate planning attorneys have successfully represented many of their clients in controversy matters at IRS Appeals and in federal court. The issues handled have included controversies relating to the valuation of closely-held business enterprises and the effectiveness for estate tax purposes of buy-sell agreements. Our attorneys also handle matters in state court, such as trust reformation proceedings and will contest.
In addition, Dow Lohnes advises personal representatives and heirs on all aspects of the administration of decedent estates, and counsels trustees and beneficiaries on the complexities of trusts administration.
