Gift and Travel Regulations

Our Government relations attorneys assist clients in complying with gift and travel restrictions applicable to the federal Legislative and Executive Branches. The Senate and House of Representatives gift rules impose new restrictions on lobbyists, presenting additional compliance challenges. For the first time, federal law provides criminal and civil sanctions for lobbyists that violate the Congressional gift and travel rules. We work with clients to integrate compliance with these new rules into their legislative outreach operations and Lobbyist Disclosure Act compliance policies. Our attorneys advise clients on the gift rules' exemptions to conduct permitted events, travel, and lobbying campaigns within the rules. Separate law and regulations apply to interaction with employees in the federal Executive Branch.
