Achieving Work/Life Balance and Retention/Advancement of Women Attorneys

The Diversity Committee’s Subcommittee on Work/Life Balance carries out a twofold mission. First, the Subcommittee assists with the formulation, planning, and execution of policies, initiatives and events designed to help our lawyers balance the competing demands of their professional and personal lives. The Subcommittee's major initiatives in this area include aiding in the ongoing development and implementation of the Firm’s policy on alternative work arrangements, and organizing programs for all attorneys on subjects designed to help lawyers achieve satisfaction in both their work and personal endeavors.

The second part of the Subcommittee’s mission is to assist the Firm in the retention and advancement of women attorneys. The Subcommittee sponsors regular programs and events focused on topics of particular concern to women in the profession. In addition, the Subcommittee organizes women partner meetings and coordinates mentoring events that bring together junior and senior female lawyers.

Pursuant to Dow Lohnes’ broad commitment to maintain a flexible work environment, attorneys, both men and women, can design flexible work arrangements in consultation with their practice groups. Part-time attorneys can remain at the Firm indefinitely, and part-time associates have advanced to partnership. Further, we offer back-up emergency child care to all employees. We also offer domestic partnership health benefits.
